Rene Splinter was born in December 1968 in The Hague, the Netherlands. Since 1977, Rene got interested into electronic music since he had heard Jean Michel Jarre's 'Oxygene'. It was in 1986 when Rene was introduced into the world of Electronic Music by his best friend. Within that year, Rene bought his first synthesizer, the Sequential Circuits Pro One. Since then he started to record his own music, first with very limited resources, by overdubbing the tracks with two cassette decks, and playing nearly everything manually. He began his professional musical career creating soundtracks and scores for several off-Broadway companies working in experimental theater. Rieg is a musician in the electronic music genre (some call it "new age" or "ambient", but it might be simpler to just call it electronic music). Rieg started his musical career in 1979 in those early underground "old school" days of todays electronic music. In 1980/81 He issued 3 cassette tapes ("Source", "Music for Wind" & "Voices"). The two last of the early cassettes was later re-issued in 1998, as CD's from the original master tapes. Much later the CD "Return" was released in 2008.
