Keller & Schönwälder - Noir 5 tracks Running time: 1:15:44 Released: 04/2009 |
SynGate CD-R 2152 - originally released in 2003 as Manikin MRCD 7066 - The majority of the album is taken up with three movements of the title track. Thick windy drones mix with eerie samples. These samples only last a few seconds however before we are submerged in foreboding 'breathy' pads with just a little detail here and there. Some lead elements do start to develop low in the mix. They have something of a percussive quality and combine nicely with cosmic effects. Lovely tron sounds enter in the fifth minute giving a slightly softer edge along with some gentle ethereal pads.... more info

Keller & Schönwälder - Loops & Beats (2-CD) 16 tracks Running time: 2:37:45 Released: 04/2007 |
SynGate CD-R 2112 - originally released in 1996 as Manikin MRCD 7020 - 2-CD album disc 1: tracks 1-7 disc 2: tracks 8-16 It often turns out that collaboration albums don't turn out as good as they sound on paper so I approached this double CD with some caution. As it turned out I needn't have worried as this is a stonkingly good release. The first CD represents beautiful atmospheric music with some first rate sequences in that good old classic 70s style, the second is more upbeat and definitely '90s'. The first disc 'Loops' starts with a short prologue (in German) before getting into... more info

Broekhuis, Schönwälder & Friends - Spherical Bodies 8 tracks Running time: 1:16:20 Released: 12/2005 |
SynGate CD-R 2054 - originally released in 1994 as Manikin MRCD 7007 - 'Spherical Bodies' is up first and is split into 2 parts, although index points are not used (a bit odd really). A stuttering bass line and rich pads introduce the track. Soon a soaring lead is deployed, a key change made and a sequence, again strangely stuttering, is added. The beats build and we also have some overdriven guitar. The track is broken down during the fifth minute, ethereal pads taking centre stage. But the build is inevitable with more guitar. It's well done but left me a little... more info

Bas B. Broekhuis - The Synchronicity Of Life 6 tracks Running time: 1:03:11 Released: 03/1996 |
Manikin MRCD 7021 This CD consists of the title track split into six parts. Overall the album has a very uplifting feel with bouncy rhythms and strong melodies. I enjoy playing it most first thing in the morning as it starts the day in just the right sort of mood but without being overly intrusive. The second track sounds as if it would have fitted quite happily on 'Drive Inn' by Klaus Schulze and Rainer Bloss. The third track is the only one to give a rather melancholy feel though it does contain some beautiful melodies and is probably my favourite... more info
