march 2000 6 tracks Running time: 1:13:53 Released: 11/2009 |
the audience at the jodrell bank concerts of 2000 will remember that there was a boxed set available late that year, gathering together the best of the concert series. our contribution differed from the others in that we decided to add material from a concert we played two weeks later in the netherlands. in trying to decide which parts of the two concerts to include, I had them playing simultaneously in my audio-edit software. this was possible because we'd done more-or-less the same set on both occasions. the idea then came to us to leave the performances layered in various... more info

antisocial 4 tracks Running time: 1:05:34 Released: 03/2008 |
This is a live, previously unreleased, set from 2005 recorded at the Brudenell Social club in Leeds (UK). It has all the hallmarks of the classic RMI sound, and is yet another example of why so many EM fans have RMI on their “essentials” list. Sequencer fans will be immediately struck by ‘loose metal compound’ which contains some mesmeric electronic pulsations. However the focus of this set is aimed more at the sort of improvisational sonic explorations that meld guitar, effects, ‘tron and synthesis in a constantly mutating aural fusion that cajoles and challenges in equal amounts. Oh, and the sound... more info

october gallery (redux) 10 tracks Running time: 1:47:27 Released: 12/2007 |
Double album Disc 1: Tracks 1-4 Disc 2: Tracks 5-10 In February 1997 a group of lucky fans witnessed one of RMI’s finest concerts. The occasion, atmosphere, and location provided the perfect backdrop for the band to create a magical set of music, combining released material with some sensational new sections. Sequencing fans especially were in awe of the syncopating tapestries which were created literally “on the fly”. The CDR which was issued to the audience became the stuff of legend to RMI collectors. 10 years on, with the advent of the download era, the time now seems right to allow all RMI’s fans... more info

zabriskie point 3 tracks Running time: 1:10:56 Released: 06/2000 |
the brief was to recreate a piece in the style of a track we had recorded in 1980: zabriskie point, for our 1996 appearance on mtv's party zone. obviously a tv show built around dance music was ideal for a contribution from radio massacre international involving not one discernable beat! during the week leading up to the recording of the show we explored the textures and themes we would use when it came to our second ten minute improvised slot (we had arranged 'frozen north 2' for our first). this piece is the result of that week's work and is an evolving... more info

knutsford in may 5 tracks Running time: 1:01:57 Released: 05/1997 |
RMI's fantastic 1996 Jodrell Bank performance. Other than some adjusted artwork, this is identical to the (now deleted) CD release on Centaur. Concert report 18th May 1996... 7:30pm sharp and RMI took the stage (which by now was completely swamped by an impressive array of equipment, including two Mellotrons). The lights went down and virtual darkness heralded the opening section of RMI's improvised set. Already there is no mistaking their style. Steve Dinsdale faced the audience, perched behind his Mellotron. Duncan Goddard sat behind Steve to the left, adjacent to a pair of keyboards and in close proximity to the RMI rack... more info

republic 3 tracks Running time: 1:14:02 Released: 06/1996 |
radio massacre international's 2nd adventure in actually selling stuff for people to hear, although by this time the band had been recording for 15 years in one form or another. this is a reissue of the original 1996 CD release, & the content is identical except in respect of some details of the artwork. it has been described by some critics as "one of the three Rs", meaning that to some listeners, it goes quite nicely with "ricochet" & "rubycon" by another trio of electronic musicians. see what you think. more info

frozen north 7 tracks Running time: 2:13:36 Released: 06/1995 |
Double album Disc 1: Tracks 1-5 Disc 2: Tracks 6-7 Of the trio of bands primarily responsible for the resurgence of interest in 70's EM, RMI are probably the closest to emulating the Rubycon/Ricochet/Encore sound. Not that they are trying any more or less than the others, it's just a statement which leaves you in no doubt of the style of music contained on this album. Take the 20 minute opener for example, Wrecks. Six minutes of skilful atmospherics give way to the sequencer run which is supplemented by well judged electric guitar at eleven minutes. The palette of sounds are totally authentic for... more info
