Manikin MRCD 7055 Bright tinkling synth pads create vivid picture music throughout the first track 'Labyrinth- The Beginning' . At the four minute mark rasping effects break the tranquillity and soon after a sequence comes in. It is robust in the sound chosen but also has a delicate melodic quality which acts in juxtaposition to the rasping noise. Guitar chords enter near the end and begin to alter the images created by the mind's eye. The feeling now is of restrained power. Manikin MRCD 7029 A beautiful tune played on the piano with choral synth backing starts ‘Echoes of the Past’. Things are left to drift serenely before a delicate rhythm picks the pace up slightly and acts as a framework for yet more piano melodies. Later on a flute takes the lead and is one of the best uses of this sound I have heard all year. The way the piano then returns as if in answer is stunning. Manikin MRCD 7010 Released in 1996, the artist behind Arcanum is Bernd Franz Moritz Braun and he's come up with a quality synth album here which doesn't exactly break new ground, but what it does cover is presented with polish and expertise. The opening track 'Alaska' features 20 minutes of careful sequences and lush synth pads and textures. This is not for fans of "in yer face" wall of sound EM, but may appeal to Space Music fans who would perhaps like something a bit less desolate and more lively.
