61 Cygnus-Alpha 4 tracks Running time: 1:19:52 Released: 02/2008 |
SynGate CD-R 2098 Some lovely deep analogue cosmic twitters reverberate and then echo into the distance as the fantastically spaced out '61 Cygnus-Alpha' gets underway. If I were to put on more planetarium concerts I think I would play this over the PA as people were coming in. It would set just the right atmos. Close your eyes and let your mind take you to the depths of uncharted space. There is a warmth to it all though, a sort of comforting environment enveloping and protecting us on our journey. Some of the effects were so bass laden my speakers could... more info

The Glass Bridge 3 tracks Running time: 1:14:26 Released: 09/2006 |
SynGate CD-R 2094 Syn this is the synthesist David T. Dewdney. In 2002, he had impressed me with the publication of his first opus Soundwave Traveller, classified 5th best EM title of the year. At the time of an interview, he mentioned to possess more than 70 hours of recordings. The Glass Bridge did therefore leaves this gigantic musical bank that rests in the intrants of his creativity. After an intro very floating, where the synthetic strates multiply themselves in softnesson of frugal laments, The Glass Bridge Parts I-III animates itself towards the final minute with a curled sequencer that recalls strangely the analogous dialect of Jean-Michel Jarre... more info

Skyline 5 tracks Running time: 1:17:49 Released: 04/2005 |
SynGate CD-R 2049 After a brief journey away from the Berlin School for his previous album 'Orange' Syn returns to full in yer face retro territory for this one! A deep drone combines with wonderful lush mellotron sounds right from the first second of 'Mellotropica'. And very aptly titled it is too because if you're a fan of the tron you should be in heaven here as basically it is the lead instrument, often being layered with one line on top of the other in an ever shifting mix, for the full twenty-four minute duration! Both 'Phaedra' and 'Epsilon in Malaysian... more info

Orange 9 tracks Running time: 1:17:49 Released: 05/2004 |
SynGate CD-R 2028 Wouldn't it be boring if everything in life was the same color? Wouldn't it all get so dull if love, hate, rage, elation, joy were all the same color, no matter how beautiful? Yes, of course everybody has their own favorite color, but variety is the spice of life, as they say. Variety is also what keeps an artist’s creativity alive, since an artist - just like anybody else - has many different facets that need expressing. We all love Berlin School music, classic EM, and all that, and none of us would ever want to do without... more info

Sonus 6 tracks Running time: 1:18:48 Released: 04/2004 |
SynGate CD-R 2023 The album is split into six tracks, all different parts of the CD title. Part One begins with lovely soft pads over which a bright lead is played, accompanied by piano detail. Part Two follows on in similar fashion but without the piano and if anything with even denser dronal backing. It isn't long before a sequence starts up and as with Syn's other albums before this the whole thing has a very Berlin School feel to it. The pulsations bounce along nicely without forcing the issue. The Third Part has more sequences right from the... more info

Synphara 6 tracks Running time: 1:14:44 Released: 09/2003 |
SynGate CD-R 2016 Basically, if you liked the first two albums you will have to purchase this one as well. Right from the beginning of the opener 'Cydonia' sequences are the order of the day. Pulsations bubble over lush soft mellotron pads, amply demonstrating just how well David Dewdney, the man behind Syn, has mastered the art of seventies influenced retro Sequencer music. Things chug along beautifully, the sound palette being spot on, getting even better just before the six-minute mark with the introduction of a second sequence and another fine lead line. 'Valles Marineris' starts rather ominously. Reverberating stabs of... more info

Thru The Syngate 7 tracks Running time: 1:14:23 Released: 02/2003 |
SynGate CD-R 2006 This is the second CD by Syn and basically if you liked the first 'Soundwave Traveller' you should also like this. 'Transcendant' begins with the sound of a plane landing then we are straight into a lovely mid paced sequence accompanied by some great analogue sounds. Edgar Froese's solo works came to mind, particularly 'Macula Transfer' and 'Ages'. Then again there are some bits which wouldn't have been out of place on 'Stuntman'. The Froese comparisons are actually apt nearly all the way through the CD. It's a great opener which works on every level, the melody being... more info
